The PersonalBest Peak Flow Meter is an easy-to-use device that allows you to quickly and accurately measure your peak expiratory flow.
Regular measurement of peak air flow, i.e. PEF (peak expiratory flow) is a useful method for self-monitoring lung function in people with asthma. It is measured by simple and affordable devices called PEF meters.
The PEF trend is a reliable fact about the change in your asthma and a useful source of information for your doctor to get a more complete picture of your condition and better treatment. The reduction in PEF achieved coincides with the rate of asthma exacerbation.
The expected (or “normal”) PEF value is not the same for all people. Depending on age, height and gender. To calculate the expected PEF value, enter the required data, or conveniently enter the result on your personal PEF meter if you have one.
Method of use
PEF should be measured every morning and evening, before starting inhalation therapy. It is measured three times in a row and records the highest value reached.
