Why iodine is important for the body<\/b><\/h4>\n

Iodine is a natural material that nourishes every cell in our body and is essential for the normal functioning of all organs, tissues and processes in the body. It is found in every human tissue and organ. It is best known as essential for the production of hormones in the thyroid gland, thus preventing baldness. Thyroid hormones are needed by every cell in our body to function properly. However, it is a misconception that only women, pregnant women and those with more serious health problems (thyroid, etc.) need to supplement iodine. The human body cannot produce iodine on its own<\/strong>, so it is important to ensure sufficient intake. Iodine intake is only sufficient for the body’s minimum needs. But for many organs, many people are running out of it.<\/span><\/p>\n

We can do <\/span>a simple test to see if your body is deficient in iodine<\/strong>:<\/span> Apply 1-2 drops of the lye solution to the area of the body where the skin is thinnest (inside of the wrist, crease at the elbow, at the knee) – this will allow the fastest absorption. Observe how long it takes for the brown spot on the skin to disappear. If the spot disappears before 10h, you are definitely deficient in iodine.<\/span><\/p>\n

Iodine deficiency and the need for additional intake<\/b><\/h4>\n

Several studies, both Slovenian and foreign, have shown that the use of iodised salt is not sufficient<\/a> and that iodine levels are still declining. We need more iodine today than we did 100 years ago because food is more depleted (the soil lacks iodine). In addition, we are exposed daily to substances that displace iodine and prevent iodine from binding in the body (chlorine, bromine, fluorine). In addition, iodine deficiency is also affected by pollution, chemicals in food, processed food and perchlorate in water (which damages iodine transport into cells). <\/span><\/p>\n

What does the research say about iodine supplementation?<\/b><\/h4>\n

Several studies have confirmed that even the consumption of iodised salt does not meet the body’s actual iodine requirements. The daily iodine intake for an adult should be between 150mg – 200mg. Dr Miran Porenta found that Slovenians get 60 mg of iodine from daily servings of normal food, which does not include seafood, so it is not enough to increase iodine intake from the diet, but it is necessary to supplement it (eating seafood every day is impractical). <\/span><\/p>\n

129 countries around the world have identified iodine deficiency as a public health problem, including Slovenia, where mandatory iodisation of salt was first introduced in 2010. 1953, and again in 1999, when iodisation was increased by 2.5 times. Since then, however, Slovenian experts have concluded that iodine levels in Slovenia are too low even by WHO (World Health Organisation) criteria, and Dr Miran Porenta concludes that the entire area of Slovenia falls within a level 1 endemic zone.<\/span><\/p>\n

Do we get enough iodine from salt?<\/b><\/h4>\n

Today, the most important source of iodine is iodised salt, but even this does not contain enough iodine to meet the needs of the human body. Iodine from salt is only sufficient to prevent gout, but not to provide sufficient iodine to the body. In addition, most of the salt used is refined salt, which is not suitable. Refined salt is lifeless because it contains no minerals and is exposed to toxic chemicals to achieve its white colour. <\/span><\/p>\n

What are the natural sources of iodine and how to solve iodine deficiency?<\/b><\/h4>\n

Marine fish, shellfish, crustaceans, seaweed are natural sources of iodine, but certain other foods (freshwater fish, eggs, meat, dark green vegetables, certain dairy products…) are incomparably deficient in iodine, and the iodine content of these foods also depends on the iodine content of the soil. If you want to ensure that your body gets enough iodine daily, you should eat sea fish every day, as it is the largest source of iodine. In addition, food loses iodine through cooking (about 60 iodine is lost when seafood is cooked, 20 when baked). <\/span><\/p>\n

        Which organs need iodine the most to function?<\/b><\/h4>\n

        The amount of iodine in the human body is between 30 and 50 mg and is mainly found in the glands(thyroid, pancreas, adrenal glands<\/strong>) and reproductive tissues (ovaries, breasts, prostate, etc.<\/strong>). The thyroid gland contains an average of 9 mg of iodine, but retains up to 50 mg by supplementation. The ovaries have the highest concentration of iodine in the body (after the thyroid gland). The thyroid gland needs 6 mg of iodine per day to function properly, breast tissue 5 mg, and other tissues (adrenal glands, thymus, ovaries, pituitary gland, etc.) about 2 mg per day. Iodine is also present in the cerebrospinal fluid, the lining of the stomach and the skin (about 20% of all iodine in the body is in the sweat glands, in the skin).<\/span><\/p>\n

        Why do we use Lugol’s solution and not pure iodine?<\/b><\/h4>\n

        Iodine is not very soluble in water and Dr Lugol found that the solubility of iodine increases with the addition of potassium iodide. He started using a solution (5% iodine and 10% potassium iodide) that is still called Lugol’s solution today. We prepare the Lugol’s solution according to Dr Hulge Clark’s original recipe. <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

        Dr Brownstein argues that the greatest therapeutic effect is achieved when using a combination of iodine and iodide, rather than iodine alone – which is what Lugol’s solution is. The body needs both forms of iodine to function. The breast, prostate and stomach tissues primarily need iodine, while the thyroid, salivary glands and skin prefer iodide. Iodine is also less soluble in water and more soluble in potassium iodide. The solution also allows the protein to be properly utilised. This is also the main reason why Lugol’s solution is an excellent and usable source of iodine.<\/span><\/p>\n

        What iodine deficiency means for our body<\/b><\/h4>\n

        • A sufficient daily intake of iodine prevents diseases in tissues that depend on iodine (ovaries, breasts, prostate, thyroid). Iodine is used by every hormone receptor in the body, so iodine deficiency causes hormonal dysfunction. <\/span><\/li>\n
        • All the glands in our body also need iodine to function normally. Iodine deficiency can leave consequences in the adrenal gland, thymus, hypothalamus, pituitary axis and the entire endocrine system.<\/span><\/li>\n
        • Iodine deficiency can affect infertility, mental retardation, reduced intellectual capacity, etc.<\/span><\/li>\n
        • They also note that it is impossible to have a balanced immune system without adequate levels of iodine in the body, and that iodine helps to utilise protein properly – anyone deficient in iodine is also deficient in protein.<\/span><\/li>\n
        • Iodine deficiency causes baldness, weight gain, and a greater chance of abnormal structures in the tissues (cysts). <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

          How to use Lugol’s solution?<\/b><\/h4>\n

          Using the dropper provided in the Lugol’s solution bottle, put 2 drops of Lugol’s solution in a glass of water or juice once a day and take.<\/span><\/p>\n

          Iodine can also be absorbed through the skin. Spread two drops once a day over the body where the skin is thinnest (inside of the wrist). After a few hours, the yellowish stain will disappear, which means that the iodine has been absorbed into the body along with the iodide.<\/span><\/p>\n

          Use as an antiseptic:<\/span> on the wound<\/span> gently apply a few drops or on sterile gauze and dab the wound with it. Once the iodine on the wound has dried, cover the wound with a sterile dressing or gauze. Change the gauze once a day or. if necessary.<\/span><\/p>\n

          Composition<\/b><\/h4>\n

          Lugol’s solution contains iodine and potassium iodide. The source of iodine is elemental iodine. The solvent is demineralised water. The weight concentration of the solution is 12%. <\/span>The Lugol’s solution is prepared according to the original Hulda Clark method.<\/span><\/p>\n

          100 g of the product contains: <\/span>88.34 g demineralised water, <\/span>3,88 g iodine, <\/span>7,77 g potassium iodide.<\/span><\/p>\n
